We've been working on the Hula Shirt for a while. As usual, we put a crazy amount of work into it. For us, a warm weather button down is all about the fabric. There's nothing worse that being out in the sun wearing a shirt that doesn't breath well, doesn't move with your body, and feels too heavy. That's why we had this vintage white cotton slub fabric woven just for us.
It's a medium weight cotton so it's crisp and holds it's shape but with 1% elastane woven throughout, it's also got just that right amount of flex. And because it's been garment washed, it's super soft and hangs the way a summer button down should.

OUR FIRST PATTERN
Once we got the slub injected cotton fabric just right, we moved onto the pattern overlay. We've created a lot of graphics over the years, and made a tonne of awesome graphic tees. But before The Hula Shirt, we'd never created a Steeltown pattern before. So we wanted to get it right.
The first iteration had only the hula girls and the palm trees. It definitely had some rad Hawaiian shirt vibes. But it still lacked a little bit of Steeltown. So we dove into our graphic repository and unearthed the STGC burning gas can. It fit perfectly and added that gritty city garage touch to a classic tropical pattern.
